Long break ahead for alpine skiers1/15/09

Sam Darling racked up a five-second win Tuesday for the Champlain Valley Union High alpine ski team at Smugglers’ Notch Resort in Jeffersonville.

Henry Moody finished 10th in the event for the Redhawks’ boys team. For the girls, Cassie Smith took third, Mikaela Gobeille eighth and Mariah Hill 10th.

The alpine skiers return to competition on Jan. 29 at the Middlebury Snow Bowl.

Last Thursday, in a two-run slalom at Mad River Glen, the boys team captured first place. They were led by Cody Putre (second), Dan Caffrey (third), Warren Colomb (fifth), Alex Zullo (seventh), Hayden Carpenter (eighth) and Golden Golann (ninth).

The girls team took second, with Smith leading the Redhawks in fourth and Allie Maynes eighth.
