A dog costume contest will be one of the events at Saturday’s dog celebration
at the Isham Family Farm on Oak Hill Road.

Dogs, Halloween and the farm Williston has been my home for over 16 years.

I live, work and spend most of my hours within its borders.

Imagine my delight three years ago when I answered an ad on Front Porch Forum seeking help at a local dog rescue — not just any rescue — an English bulldog rescue right here in town.

Vermont English Bulldog Rescue, founded in 1998 by Dawna Pederzani, has accomplished much in its tenure, saving, rehabilitating (with the use of very over-used credit cards and the kindness of supporters) and rehoming hundreds of dogs, some tossed aside like trash, others lovingly surrendered due to change in life circumstances.

Each dog has its own heartbreaking and inspirational story.

This Saturday, we will celebrate all breeds of dogs and would like to invite you to join us. Mike Isham and his family will open the doors of their beautifully refurbished barn on Oak Knoll Road to host the event from 12-4 p.m.

The day will begin with playtime for dogs and their humans. Children will enjoy the activities, craft and game stations.

Lunch options for purchase will be offered, and Williston resident McKew Devitt will entertain us with his music, including kids’ karaoke. Sam Smith, from Walk My Dog, will offer individual training sessions, and farmer Mike will have the tractor ready for cart rides to the pumpkin patch.

Also, treat yourself to “smooch a pooch” at the kissing booth. Meet ready-foradoption, adorable puppies and charming dogs. Items on display will be for purchase including candles, t-shirts, cards and all-things dogs. Enter a raffle and keep your admission ticket for door prize drawings.

The day’s finale will feature dog shows and the famous doggie costume contest and parade with ribbons for all.

Get ready for Chewy the Austrian terrier as a cupcake and meet Lenney the Superdog! Admission is $10 per family. Find your dog’s Halloween costume and join us for an afternoon of prizes, food, great people and amazing dogs.

Stay as little or as long as you’d like.
