Latin jazz to light up Brick Church

The Williston Brick Church Music Series continues its 10th season on Friday, Feb. 9 with an evening of Latin jazz featuring Ray Vega.

A trumpeter, percussionist, composer and arranger, Vega has established himself as one of the innovators of the international jazz and Latin music scenes.

Vega grew up immersed in New York City’s jazz and salsa scenes, then formally studied the trumpet. He is currently a senior lecturer at the University of Vermont, teaching trumpet and jazz history.

The Ray Vega Latin Jazz Quinteto is Vega’s Vermont-based ensemble, which presents original jazz, funk and Latin compositions. More information is available at rayvegamusic.com.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m., and the show starts at 7 p.m. at the Old Brick Church in Williston Village. Tickets are $13 in advance, $15 at the door ($11/$13 for seniors and children under 12).

The evening’s beneficiary is Salvation Farms. The featured visual artists will be CVU Advanced Placement Studio Art students.

The Music Series continues through April on the second Friday of each month. For more information visit, town.williston.vt.us.
