Indiana cops help solve Williston theft

Police officers in Hobart, Ind., arrested a woman suspected of stealing a wallet in Williston in July and using it to make about $3,000 worth of purchases at stores around Chittenden County.

The Williston Police Department first received a report of a stolen wallet out of an employee locker at a local business on July 14. Officers originally were unable to locate a suspect, but using video surveillance they worked out a description of a woman suspected of the crime and the vehicle she drove.

Three days later, officers in Indiana stopped 34-year-old Tanessa McKnight of LaCross, Wisc., while she was driving in the Town of Hobart. Officers searched her car and reportedly found photo identification cards and credit cards belonging to several theft victims in multiple states, including the victim from the theft in Williston.

A large amount of merchandise was also reportedly found in the vehicle.

Officers arrested McKnight, and Williston Police charged her with identify theft and credit card fraud. She is scheduled to appear in Chittenden County Court on Sept. 11.
