Hockey triumphs: CougarHawks and Redhawks take lead

Plattsburgh, N.Y. 2, Champlain Valley-Mount Mansfield 1:

Host Champlain Valley-Mount Mansfield surrendered the game-winning goal with just over two minutes remaining in regulation to fall to Plattsburgh, N.Y. in the second game of the Hockey for Hope tournament at Cairns Arena in South Burlington.

Lauren Hagerty tallied for the CougarHawks (0-3), while Anna Burke earned the assist. Fiona Dulude stopped 17 shots in goal.

Champlain Valley-Mount Mansfield opened the Hockey for Hope tournament with a 3-1 loss against Hamden, Conn.

Burke had the lone goal for the CougarHawks and Hagerty added the assist. Dulude made 18 saves in losing effort.

Champlain Valley 7, Rutland 3:

Tyler Brooks found the back of the net twice for Champlain Valley as the visitors raced out to a 4-0 first period lead enroute to a win over Rutland.

Colin Lach and Max Akey also had two goals for the Redhawks (2-0), while Mac Miller scored his first varsity goal. Collin Vincent and Joe Parento each had two assists. Ty Parker and Jake Kindestin combined for 13 saves.

Connor Ladabouche scored twice for the Raiders and Glen Mandel made 23 saves.
