Hilltoppers next test for unbeaten CVU hoop girls

With a week off the roundball court due to exams, the 7-0 Champlain Valley Union High girls basketball team returns to what coach Ute Otley hopes will be its larcenous ways Saturday with a 12:30 p.m. home engagement with 2-5 St. Johnsbury Academy.

Regardless of their record, the Vermont east side Toppers are always a tough challenge, whether home or away.

It was Civil War Confederate Gen. Nathan Bedford Forrest who said the way to victory is to “get there first with the mostest.”

In its most recent win, a 45-27 triumph last Thursday at Bellows Free Academy in St. Albans—previously a house of horrors for the Redhawks—CVU opened the game with a fast and furious 20-2 rumble that was indeed first with the most.

The veteran junior frontcourt-backcourt duet of Emily Kinneston and Kaelyn Kohlasch led the scorers with 12 and nine points. BFA, now 4-2, was paced by Lauren Larose with eight.

I take frequent walks in my neighborhood and surrounding sidewalks/roads on Industrial Avenue and Rt 2-A and occasionally see what appears to be a dog-poop bag, nicely tied, but simply left there in the road or on the sidewalk. I would like to remind dog-walkers that this is not appropriate. Please carry it off.
