Elementary ice-breaker

The Dorothy Alling Memorial Library hosted a kindergarten open house and meet-and-greet to kick off the school year Monday.

Incoming kindergarten students from Williston and St. George and their families were invited to attend the evening event, which included storytime, ice-breakers and a chance for each kindergartener to get their own library card and meet new classmates.

While the kids mingled and got to know each other, so did the parents, many of whom will be sending a child to public school for the first time.

“I definitely worry about my daughter making new friends. I want her to feel comfortable at school,” parent Sara Mckinstry said.

“The start of kindergarten can be a stressful time for kids and parents. It’s great that the library offers these kind of events,” added parent Marcie Allen.
