CVU wrestlers end series of road matches1/8/09

Champlain Valley Union High’s wrestling team winds up a series of four road appearances on Saturday when coach Rahn Fleming’s combine takes part in a Vermont Invitational competition at Vergennes Union High.

Champlain Valley Union High wrestler Sherman Wood turns an Enosburg opponent to the mat for a pin on Dec. 17. Wood, a senior captain from Williston who competes in the 136-pound division, recently notched his 100th victory.

The event starts at 9:30 a.m.

This past Wednesday, the Redhawks journeyed to Randolph, where they grappled with their counterparts from Mount Abraham Union.

On Dec. 30, CVU came in seventh among 17 teams in the Hubie Wagner Invitational at Middlebury Union High.

Sherman Wood, who recently gained his 100th victory, placed second in the 136-pound division.

“That is a significant milestone in a wrestling career,” Fleming said of Wood’s century mark victory.

Also placing high in Middlebury were Jason Marko, third in the 145-pound group, and Stephen Fortin, third in the 152-pound division.
