With an unblemished record through its first eight games, the Champlain Valley Union High boys hockey team returns to the ice Saturday to play host to visiting North Country Union at Cairns Arena. Game time is 8:15 p.m.

Coach Mike Murray’s aggregation will travel to St. Albans for a go at Bellows Free Academy Wednesday evening at 7:30 p.m.

The Redhawks hiked their season mark to 8-0 Monday night as Brendan Gannon blasted three goals in a 6-1 home triumph over Spaulding High of Barre.

Freshman Thomas Samuelsen added a tally, as did veterans Elliott Mitchell and Will Bernicke. The Redhawks bombarded the Crimson Tide net with 41 shots.

CVU netminder junior Greg Talbert had 19 saves. His goals-against average now stands at a sparkling 0.87.

Last Saturday, the Redhawks scored a 4-1 victory against Colchester at Burlington’s Leddy Arena. Samuelsen, Oscar Kelly, Patrick Pattison and Cam Rivard put pucks in the net for the winners. Talbert had 19 stops to 37 for the Lakers’ Erik Swan.

It was CVU’s second win over Colchester (6-2).
