After giving 3-4-1 Hartford High some anxious moments Saturday at Cairns Arena, the 0-7-1 Champlain Valley Union High girls hockey team returns to the home ice Saturday at 12:25 p.m. to meet 5-3-1 South Burlington High-Mount Mansfield Union.
The two schools signed a cooperative agreement this season due to lack of potential players at each institution.
CVU, which has a similar agreement with Burlington High, got a 1-0 lead on Hartford Wednesday on Molly Dunphy’s shot from high in the slot in the second period.
The Hurricanes responded with three scores on their own by the end of the period.
The Redhawks’ Randy Lynn Katon scored in the third reel to pull CVU to 3-2, but Hartford was able to push a final goal past CVU netminder Tashia Pashby-Rockwood, who had 21 stops.
“The girls skated very well,” said coach Ben Psaros via e-mail.
Pashby-Rockwood has been skating only since the fall after playing in goal for the field hockey team, according to Psaros.
