CVU grads named to Twin State soccer team

When graduated seniors from Vermont and New Hampshire high schools contest the boys and girls Twin State soccer bragging rights July 18, there will be a strong Champlain Valley Union High presence.

The 41st annual Lions Club matches are scheduled for Spartan Stadium at Castleton State College with the girls playing at 4 p.m. and the boys at 6. Proceeds from the games support Lions Clubs sight and hearing projects.

CVU girls soccer coach Stan Williams will direct the Vermont team with his regular assistant Chris Smith.

Among the athletes under the Vermont banner will be three mainstays from CVU’s Division 1 champions. They are Mackenzie Buckman (back), Paige DuBrul (midfield) and Ellie Blake (back).

In addition, two underclass CVU team members, Naomi Burhans and Sierra Morton, will serve as team managers.

For the Vermont boys, to be coached by Buddy Hayford of Twin Valley High, forward Max Brown and back Patrick McCue will represent the Redhawks. They could be joined by forward Richard Baccei, who is an alternate.

The players are scheduled to arrive in Castleton two days prior to the games for two days of practice.
