CVU field hockey team earns 4th seed

Oct. 28, 2010

The youthful Champlain Valley Union High field hockey team has earned fourth seed in the Vermont Principals Association playoff lineup and will play host to fifth-seeded Rutland High on Saturday morning at 11.

Last Friday’s 2-0 home victory over Mount Abraham Union earned the Redhawks a 7-4-3 regular season mark. Rutland, from out of the south, comes with an 8-5-1 record for its initial meeting of the year with CVU.

Swift forwards Mollie Burke and Sarah Reed had the goals in the Redhawks’ victory over the Eagles, with Louise Gibbs getting an assist.

Goalkeeper Sami Kassel had a trio of stops in the CVU cage.

It was the final regular season home contest for senior tri-captains Gibbs, Mallory Hillman and Aubrey Deavitt, along with Kassel, Holly Bertolet, Kelsey Barrett and Madison Wetmiller.

I take frequent walks in my neighborhood and surrounding sidewalks/roads on Industrial Avenue and Rt 2-A and occasionally see what appears to be a dog-poop bag, nicely tied, but simply left there in the road or on the sidewalk. I would like to remind dog-walkers that this is not appropriate. Please carry it off.
