Last month, 123 football players descended on Palmer’s Field in Hinesburg to mark the start of the Buccaneers Youth Football season.  In the ensuing two weeks, players from 2nd through 8th grades learned about safety, teamwork, play formations and personal discipline.

At the end of their pre-season training, 5/6 Coach Jason Galipeau suggested a special treat for the kids, a visit from Mr. Ding a Ling. Then, within minutes of announcing the truck was coming, an anonymous donor surprised everyone by saying that they wanted to pay for the ice cream for the whole team and their coaches. The kids were simply ecstatic when the truck pulled into the field.

The Buccaneers had their first home game at Palmer’s Field on Saturday, Sept. 3, with the 7/8 team topping the South Burlington Dolphins 26 to 18. The 5/6 team also played South Burlington but was defeated 0 to 14. For more on the Buccaneers program, and the upcoming CVU/Buccaneers annual charity golf tournament, visit cssubuccaneers.org.
