Fresh from checking out New England competition last weekend in Manchester, N.H., the Champlain Valley Union High cross country teams will make their annual regular season trek to Thetford on Saturday to run the hilly course overlooking the Connecticut River Valley.

The competition will serve as a bit of a preview for the state meet scheduled in Thetford on Oct. 25.

Last weekend in the Granite State, the CVU girls took second place among the large schools division while Caroline Weaver of South Burlington High took first in the individual elite division.

Adron Pitmon of Mount Mansfield Union was top Vermonter among boys, taking ninth in the division’s elite event.
