A Williston School District special education para-educator has been charged with lewd and lascivious conduct with a child, in an incident outside of his WSD job duties, according to a press release provided by Chittenden Unit for Special Investigations on Friday, May 11.

CUSI detectives arrested Jonathan Hendricksen, 28, of Winooski on Thursday “in relation to inappropriate contact in the YMCA in Burlington,” according to the press release.

CUSI detectives were notified in April of “an incident with possible inappropriate contact between an adult male and a juvenile male,” the press release states. Steps were immediately taken to ensure that Hendricksen no longer had access to the YMCA.

After his arrest, Hendricksen was taken to the Chittenden Superior Court Criminal Division for arraignment.

Williston School District Principal Walter Nardelli sent an email to parents on Friday notifying them that Hendricksen had been interviewed by CUSI “regarding allegations unrelated to his performance of his job duties with the Williston School District.”

School officials were notified on April 9 that CUSI detectives needed to interview Hendricksen.

“At the conclusion of that meeting, we took steps to place the employee on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation,” the email states.

Nardelli also stated that the school district did its own internal investigation with students that Hendricksen had worked with.

“Nothing was discovered as a result of our investigation,” the email states.

Nardelli said on Friday that he has heard from some parents, but only to clarify Hendricksen’s position within the school.

Now that Hendricksen has been charged, school officials are reviewing Hendricksen’s employment status. He is currently on paid administrative leave.

“We’re waiting to see what happens now,” Nardelli said.

Dear Parents,

On Monday April 9, we were notified by the Chittenden Unit of Special Investigation that they needed to interview an employee (Jon Hendricksen) a para-educator, regarding allegations unrelated to his performance of his job duties with the Williston School District.  We permitted CUSI to interview the employee.  At the conclusion of that meeting, we took steps to place the employee on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.  The safety of the children of Williston is always our top priority.  We also did an internal investigation with students he worked with and notified the parents of those students.  Nothing was discovered as a result of our investigation. We  have been waiting for the conclusion of CUSI’s investigation before taking any further administrative action.  Now that he has been officially charged, we will review his employment status.  He remains on leave at this time.

Sincerely,

Walter Nardelli

District Principal
