Local author and University of Vermont Professor Emeritus Frank Manchel will be at Williston eatery Chef’s Corner Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon to sign copies of his latest book, “Exits and Entrances: Interviews With Seven Who Reshaped African American Images in Movies.”

Thirty percent of the proceeds from the event’s book sales will go to the Williston Community Food Shelf, said Chef’s Corner owner Jozef Harrewyn, who organized the event.

The book delves into the experiences of Mae Mercer, Brock Peters, Jim Brown, Ivan Dixon, James Whitmore, William Marshall and Ruby Dee—performers in the tumultuous times between World War II and the 1970s.

The book is a sequel to “Every Step a Struggle,” which focused on the performers who fought to give black artists a voice and a presence in film and on stage.
