Progress made on Town Plan update
Task forces working to make recommendations on how to best update the Williston Town Plan should be ready to make presentations to the Planning Commission within a month, Planning Director Ken Belliveau said.
The Town Plan is a policy statement that guides development in Williston. The document is due for an update next year. Belliveau said the Planning Commission, once it hears from the task forces, will work to come up with a draft plan and then hold public hearings this fall.
“I think a lot of what’s there needs to be reaffirmed and fine-tuned to some extent,” Belliveau told the Selectboard at its Aug. 23 meeting.
Once the Planning Commission holds public hearings on the draft document, it would then aim to have the plan to the Selectboard by the winter. The board would also hold public hearings before approving the Town Plan.
No date has been set for the task force presentations.
Bills due
Water and sewer bills for the town of Williston have been mailed, Kimberly Richburg of the Public Works and Parks & Recreation departments wrote in an e-mail to the Observer. The bills are due by Sept. 30.
Recount in Democratic primary race
Peter Shumlin and his two closest finishers in the Democratic gubernatorial primary election are pledging unity — whatever happens in a vote recount.
Shumlin, Doug Racine and Deb Markowitz sent out a joint statement Sunday in which they pledged to campaign together and work to ensure that fund-raising, staffing and other efforts continue as they await the final result.
Shumlin leads by 197 votes in official but uncertified results from last Tuesday’s five-way election, but Racine is seeking a recount.
