Exchange students seeking host families in Williston
Visiting students, ages 15-18, from Germany, Spain, Switzerland and Thailand are seeking host families in and around Williston for the upcoming 2014-2015 academic school year. Host families are needed for the fall semester and full school year.
Host families (traditional families, singles, empty nesters, etc.) serve as mentors and a home base for their students. Visiting students participate as active members of the family and integrate into their host’s daily routines and traditions just like any other family member.
“Every year, Vermont plays host to many talented, top-of-their-class students with the lifelong dream of studying in America,” said Emily Rolin, iE-USA’s area director, in a statement.
Exchange student participants undergo an extensive application and orientation process in their home country prior to being accepted into iE-USA’s program. Each student is responsible for his/her own spending money and full health insurance coverage.
Contact Williston representative Joe Bissell at [email protected] or 517-388-8948. Host families may review prospective student profiles online at iE-USA.org. Families interested in hosting this year must apply by Aug. 15.

Fire station open house
The Williston Fire Department will host an open house on July 4 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Staff will offer station and fire truck tours, fire extinguisher training and car seat inspections. At noon, the department will perform a Jaws of Life demonstration.

Volunteers needed for library book sale
The library needs volunteers for its annual book sale. Volunteers are needed to help move the books from the library to the Williston Central gymnasium on July 2 from 8 to 11 a.m. Organizers use carts to transport the boxes of books from the library to the gym, then put all the books out on tables.
Volunteers are also needed on July 4 to work as sale assistants from 9 to 11 a.m. and 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and from 2-4 p.m. to re-box any unsold books and take down the tables.
Anyone who volunteers for the book sale is eligible to shop early from 3-4 p.m. on July 3.
To volunteer, call the library at 878-4918 or email [email protected]
