Youth wrestling league open

Williston residents in grades 1 through 6 interested in wrestling can join the Champlain Valley Hawks wrestling program. The Hawks practice at United Fighting Arts Institute Tuesday through Thursday from 5:30–7 p.m. Registration is $35 per child. To register, email or call 999-4200.

Williston Little League registration

Williston Little League T-Ball/Baseball/Softball/Babe Ruth registration has begun at If you are unable to register online, a registration night will be held Feb. 12 from 7-8 p.m. in the WCS library. Tax credit available

Vermonters who made under $51,567 in 2013 may qualify for the Earned Income Tax Credit, worth up to $6,044 as a tax credit or refund. Income guidelines are based on tax filing status and number of dependent children in the home. Families with dependent children who receive the Vermont EITC are automatically income-eligible for 3SquaresVT food benefits. Children who get 3SquaresVT also qualify for free school meals. Red Cross seeks nominations for community heroes

At its inaugural Heroes Breakfast, the Vermont & New Hampshire Upper Valley American Red Cross will honor community members who have demonstrated heroism through acts of courage or kindness. Honorees will be recognized at a celebration on April 29. The Red Cross is urging people to nominate someone to receive an award in one of the following eight categories: Armed Forces/Military Hero; Animal Hero; Youth Good Samaritan; Adult Good Samaritan; First Responder; Community Impact; Blood Services/Gift of Life;  and Spirit of the Red Cross.

The heroic act or activities must have occurred in the past 16 months—September 2012 or later—to be eligible for an award at the April event. Nominations will be accepted through Feb. 24.  For more information, visit or call 660-9130 ext. 111.
