Around town

November 27th, 2013

Winter parking ban Williston’s winter parking ban is set to begin this weekend.

The town has a winter parking ban on town streets in effect from Dec. 1 to April 1, between 11 p.m. to 7 a.m. Vehicles parked in the road during winter storm events cause delays in performing winter maintenance operations by either causing operators to wait or requiring second trips to clear the streets. Residents should also avoid blowing, plowing or shoveling snow into the street, as it is a safety hazard.

Lake Iroquois feedback sought

The Lake Iroquois Recreation District is looking for feedback from residents who use the beach and park area.

The district is conducting an online survey regarding some planned improvements to the area, available at www.surveymonkey.com/s/CGLMNQ9.

With the help of the Lake Iroquois Association, it received a grant from the Agency of Natural Resources to look at remedies to the beach and shoreline erosion. The resulting plan provides for the following measures:

Installation of a basin planted with shrubs and perennials to divert and infiltrate parking lot and road stormwater runoff from the beach.

Shifting of three parking spots from where the basin will be installed to just north of the basin.

Installation of a smaller basin (rain garden) down hill from the shelter to catch and divert roof runoff from the beach.

Stabilize and increase habitat value of the shoreline (not beach) by planting white birch, red maple and shrubs with openings to access the shore.

Stabilization of a small section of the shoreline with native rock along the toe of the slope.
