The Williston 11- and 12-year-old All-Star team completed its season Monday night with a 14-1 loss to South Burlington. District I runner-up Williston earned the chance to dethrone the defending champions by steamrolling through the tournament with a 67-run win margin.

Williston beat Shelburne 15-1 on July 10, leading the boys in blue to a July 13 game against South Burlington. The baby-blue behemoths came out swinging, sending two over the fence in the first inning alone. Both of Williston’s two runs came off Griffin McDermott’s homer in the sixth. The final score was 9-2, sending Williston to play Shelburne again.

Williston’s pitching corps dominated Shelburne, which managed only one hit in the game while Williston pounded the ball at the plate, exploding in the third inning for 12 runs. McDermott added a three-run shot to extend his home run streak to five straight games. The 12-0 win sent Williston back to face South Burlington for the division title.

The July 15 test highlighted the gap in size and power between the two squads. Four different South Burlington players hit towering home runs. South Burlington pitcher Sammy Premsagar frustrated Williston’s hitters with a combination of fastballs and curveballs, only allowing four hits and one run in four innings.

Williston, however, showed its grit and defensive prowess throughout the game. In a moment of pure emotional victory, reserve outfielder Logan Cody singlehandedly ruined the shutout for the Rebels with a slap-shot solo home run in the bottom of the fourth.
