AARP driving class in Hinesburg Oct. 19

The Hinesburg Rec Department hosts an AARP Driver Safety Class on Wednesday, Oct. 19 at 9 a.m. The 4.5-hour refresher course is open to all drivers 50 years and older. The curriculum addresses the normal physical changes brought on by the aging process, how these changes can affect driving ability and then offers ways to compensate for those changes. The course also addresses changes in vehicles, regulations and roads.

Some insurance companies offer a discount to drivers who have completed the class.

The fee for the course is $15 for AARP members and $20 for non -members. Checks for the class must be received prior to the class.

Tax-aide program seeks new volunteers

AARP Tax-Aide, the nation’s largest free volunteer-run tax counseling and preparation service, is seeking volunteers to assist in tax preparation. AARP Tax-Aide volunteers help prepare federal and state tax returns for low and middle income taxpayers with special attention to those 60 and older. Volunteers of all backgrounds are welcome, some computer skills are an extra bonus. Volunteers are needed not only to calculate taxes, but to greet taxpayers to keep the site running smoothly. The Williston Armadillos season ended a week sooner than they had hoped, with a loss in the Vermont Senior Baseball League semifinals to the Montpelier Monties. The Armadillos defeated the Monties during the regular season, but it was not the Armadillos’ day, losing 6-2 on Sunday, Sept. 18 at Williston Central School. [Read more…]
