Its road trip to St. Albans last Tuesday postponed until May 6, the Champlain Valley Union High girls lacrosse team is off until this coming Monday when it plays Rice Memorial High at home in a makeup game.

Getting those 2014 season home openers underway has been tricky at Champlain Valley Union High this spring.
The baseball and softball teams had their scheduled Tuesday contests with Mount Mansfield Union postponed a day by rain and Wednesday appeared questionable.

Recent late afternoon arrivals at Champlain Valley Union High School in Hinesburg might have had fewer choices of parking in the school’s lots.
But it was not necessarily due to parked cars. Sports activities have been in progress as spring teams were getting in needed practice time.

Vermont filmmaker Bess O’Brien tackles difficult topics. She focuses her lens on issues some people would rather not discuss: domestic violence; teenage angst; challenges faced by youth in foster care; and drug addiction. Vermont’s idyllic scenery may lead some to believe that “those sorts of problems” don’t happen here, that they’re somehow relegated to more populous areas.
O’Brien, a gifted filmmaker, shines a light on the individuals and families impacted by difficult social conditions. She brings them out of the shadows, assigning a human face to a real problem, providing a platform for them to tell their story.

This letter is written to the parents of children attending Williston Central School. I will attempt to express an experience I had on April 16. It was during the lunch break, at about 12:15 p.m. that the fire alarm sounded. Vermont got some good news recently—unemployment numbers reached a low of 4 percent and we learned that Vermonters are first in the nation for eating our vegetables and getting exercise. It’s no surprise to us. At the Agency of Natural Resources we are deeply aware of the connection between healthy lifestyles, our pristine natural environment with easily accessible mountains, forests, lakes and streams, and a thriving local economy.

Coaches vs. Cancer game May 1
The Champlain Valley Union High baseball team will head to the diamond next week to raise money for a Williston community member fighting cancer.
On Thursday, May 1 at 4:30 p.m., the CVU varsity baseball team will be taking on the South Burlington Rebels in this year’s Strike Out Cancer game.
